COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – Flags on government buildings in Columbus will be flying at half-staff in honor of a former state senator.
Gov. Mike DeWine ordered U.S. and Ohio flags to be flown at half-staff in remembrance of former Ohio State Sen. Ted Gray, who died on March 6.
Gray was elected to the Ohio Senate in 1950 and went on to win 11 terms, serving 43 years, making him the longest-serving legislator in the state.
Following his retirement, Gray remained in Upper Arlington, where he moved in 1970 in order to remain in the Senate.
Flags at the Ohio Statehouse, the Vern Riffe Center, and the Rhodes State Office Tower will remain at half-staff until sunset on Wednesday.
All other public buildings and grounds across the state may fly flags at half-staff if they so decide.
