BROOK PARK, Ohio –

Failure to comply, improper handling of a firearm, receiving stolen property: Hummel Road

A Parma man, 27, was arrested at about 2:30 a.m. Oct. 18 after he led police on a vehicle chase.

Police tried to pull over the man’s car because he was driving 40 mph on Hummel eastbound near Smith Road, a 25-mph zone. The man didn’t stop.

Police followed the man as he turned south onto West 130th Street, east onto Snow and north onto Chevrolet Boulevard. During the pursuit, the man’s speed didn’t exceed 40 mph, although he committed several traffic violations.

The man then turned into the lot of Forest Ridge Apartments in Parma and parked. Police ordered the man out of the car at gunpoint. They placed him in handcuffs.

Police learned the man was wanted by the Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Office. He told them he just wanted to return to his apartment and say goodbye to his family because he knew about the arrest warrant and that he was likely going to jail.

Police found a loaded handgun, stolen in Cleveland, and a small amount of marijuana under the driver’s seat of the man’s car.

Operating a vehicle under the influence: Hummel Road

An intoxicated Lakewood woman, 30, was arrested at about 2 a.m. Oct. 15 after she ran her Chevrolet Malibu into a ditch on Hummel near Michael Drive.

Someone called police about the woman. The witness said the woman was eating French fries in the car while stuck in the ditch.

The woman told police she had consumed four glasses of wine at Vino The Way, a wine- and beer-tasting event at Mapleside Farms in Brunswick. Police offered her medical treatment due to the car crash, but she declined, saying she was uninjured.

The woman failed field sobriety tests.

Falsification: West 130th Street

A Cleveland man, 35, was arrested at about 1 a.m. Oct. 18 after he falsely identified himself to police during a traffic stop.

The man was a passenger in a car police had pulled over on West 130th near Brookpark Road. The car didn’t have a rear license plate. Also, the driver crossed a center median while making a turn.

The driver, a 35-year-old woman, didn’t have a driver’s license and handed police an expired Ohio identification card. The man told police he wasn’t carrying any form of ID.

The man gave police a fake name and date-of-birth. When police asked if he knew his Social Security number, the man said, “Yeah, but I haven’t done anything wrong.”

Police compared the man’s face to an Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles image of the name he gave them and it didn’t match.

The man admitted he had provided his brother’s name and birthdate. When he correctly identified himself, police learned that several warrants had been issued for his arrest.

Shoplifting: Snow Road

A Cleveland man, 46, was arrested at about 2:30 p.m. Oct. 14 after he stole a cartful of groceries from Giant Eagle, 14650 Snow.

A Giant Eagle security guard saw the man leave the store without paying for the groceries. When she confronted him outside, the man pushed the shopping cart aside and ran south across Snow.

Police found the man in the restroom at McDonald’s on Snow. Giant Eagle managers said they wanted to press charges and police ordered the man never to return to the store.

Operating a vehicle under the influence: Brookpark Road

A Cleveland man, 46, was arrested at about 10:30 p.m. Oct. 14 after police caught him driving drunk on Brookpark near Smith Road.

Police observed the man’s Toyota 4Runner leave the parking lot of Amber’s Cabaret, 13311 Brookpark. He failed to stop at the sidewalk to check for pedestrians. Then the man stopped in the middle of the Brookpark-West 139th Street intersection under a red light.

Subsequently, the man drove 48 mph on Brookpark, a 35-mph zone. He drifted out of his lane several times. Police pulled him over on Brookpark just east of West 161st Street.

Police smelled alcohol in the 4Runner. The man’s eyes were glassy. Once outside his vehicle, the man leaned on the vehicle to maintain his balance. He refused to take field sobriety tests.

Shoplifting: Engle Road

Two unidentified boys and/or girls stole several snacks and beverages from Sunoco, 6313 Engle, at about 1 p.m. Oct. 15.

A Sunoco worker saw the children, who might have been older teenagers, grab merchandise off the store shelves and place it in their pockets. They left the store without paying.

Police checked the area but didn’t find the youths.

Operating a vehicle under the influence: Brookpark Road

An Independence man, 31, was arrested at about 2 a.m. Oct. 16 for driving drunk on Brookpark near West 140th Street.

Police pulled over the man’s car on Brookpark because he was driving 45 mph on Brookpark, a 35-mph zone, after pulling out of Crazy Horse, 16600 Brookpark. Also, the car was swerving.

The man’s speech was slurred. When questioned by police, he said, “I don’t want to talk too much.” He smelled like alcohol.

The man was unable to find his driver’s license. He refused to take field sobriety tests, saying he would rather be taken to jail because “that’s what’s going to happen anyway.”

Theft: Edgehurst Drive

Prescription medication was reported stolen at about 5 p.m. Oct. 12 from a vehicle parked outside an Edgehurst home. It wasn’t known whether the vehicle had been locked.

Sudden illness: Gallatin Boulevard

A 46-year-old man was taken to Southwest General Health Center in Middleburg Heights at about 8:30 p.m. Oct. 13 after he overdosed on what police believed was fentanyl in a Gallatin home.

The man was lying on the floor unconscious when police arrived.  Police used Narcan, a heroin- and opioid-overdose antidote, to revive the him.
