COLUMBUS, Ohio — Two weeks after choosing to go into the transfer portal, wide receiver Bryson Rodgers has decided that his time at Ohio State isn’t over.
Rodgers arrived in Columbus as the lowest-rated of the Buckeyes’ four freshmen receivers but had quickly impressed behind the scenes as a player with reliable hands playing in the slot. The early impressions on him made it all the more shocking when he chose to enter the transfer portal after the season. While doing so — along with Noah Rogers who is now at North Carolina State — may not have changed the expectations for the top of the room, it would have an impact on its future and 2024 depth.
But now Rodgers has reconsidered his decision and instead will return in 2024 joining a room already returning Emeka Egbuka, Jayden Ballard, Carnell Tate, Brandon Inniss, Kojo Antwi and Kyion Grayes. The room added Jeremiah Smith this week as the top prospect in the 2024 class with fellow five-star Mylan Graham joining this summer.
That will give the room nine players, or enough to field three units when the Buckeyes start spring practice in March. Rodgers had already started turning heads as a freshman even if it was only behind the scenes. With only one of OSU’s top four players returning in 2024, perhaps he can continue to do so and push for meaningful snaps next fall.
Rodgers is one of 18 players from Ohio State’s 2023 roster to enter the transfer portal after the season. He is the only one who eventually chose to stay. He is also the first to do so since the transfer portal’s introduction.
