AKRON, Ohio — An Akron man who pleaded guilty Thursday to a 2021 shooting that claimed the life of a 20-year-old man was sentenced by a Summit County judge to life in prison.

Mohamed Serour, 24, must serve at least 16 years of his sentence before becoming eligible for parole, according to a news release from Summit County Prosecutor Sherri Bevan Walsh. Serour pleaded guilty to a charge of murder with a gun specification.

Officers were called to the 30 block of North Valley Street at about 5:30 p.m. on May 25, 2021. They found LaDaviere Davis inside a residence and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Serour was arrested eight months after the shooting, driving a vehicle that was seen in front of Davis’ home at the time of the shooting, prosecutors say. Police pulled over the vehicle and found the weapon used in the shooting, prosecutors say.

No information on a possible motive for the shooting was released Thursday.
