GRAMBLING, La. – History was made on Tuesday night in Louisiana as the Grambling State Lady Tigers rolled to a 159-18 victory over the College of Biblical Studies. That 141-point win set a new record for the largest margin of victory in Division I women’s basketball history.
Prior to Grambling’s 141-point victory on Tuesday, the previous record for largest margin of victory in a D1 women’s basketball game was a 129-point win when Savannah State beat Wesleyan (Georgia) 155-26 in 2018.
The Lady Tigers (6-5 overall) jumped out to a 34-0 lead over the Ambassadors, which didn’t score its first basket until nearly eight minutes into the game at the 2:14 mark of the first quarter. Grambling State led 46-4 after the first quarter, and outscored CBS by a 36-6 margin in the second quarter to establish an 82-10 lead at halftime.
The second half of action between Grambling and CBS was more of the same. The Lady Tigers outscored the Ambassadors 39-3 in the third quarter and 38-5 in the fourth quarter en route to the record-setting victory at Grambling’s home FHC Assembly Center.
All 13 Lady Tigers who played in the game scored points, including eight double-digit scorers. As a team, Grambling shot 68.8% from the field, while CBS shot just 18.6% from the field and committed 57 turnovers in the game.
The College of Biblical Studies, based in Houston, plays in the Southwest Region of the Division II National Christian College Athletic Association.
